Recap

A disappointing outcome to this one. Philipp Grubauer continued his great play, and Pheonix Copley played well in relief. The Bears just couldn't buy a goal, as seems to be the pattern for this season thus far. In the 1st period, the Penguins were given all the power play chances. The Bears were able to survive three power plays. After the 1st, the Penguins had the 9-8 shot advantage. The Penguins would get penalties called them in this 2nd (2 of them), but the Bears couldn't get one past Jeff Zatkoff.  The Bears would take a costly penalty with 35 seconds left in the period. 6 seconds later, the Penguins got one past Grubauer. Tom Kostopoulos scored his 6th of the season, from Brian Dumoulin & Conor Sheary. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 17-15 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, right before a 8 minute period where 6 penalties were given out, Philipp Grubauer came up slow after a great save. Pheonix Copley would have to come on in relief. No goals came from the power plays that were given out during that 8 minute window. The Penguins would get the insurance goal off a Bears turnover with 48 seconds left. Dominik Uher scored his 5th of the season, from Carter Rowney & Tom Kunhhackl. Jeff Zatkoff would finish with a 26-save shutout (Penguins got 23 shots on goal).

Recap

33 seconds away from a shutout. Philipp Grubauer has been playing well this season, and he was that close to another shutout. The way the 1st period started, it looked like it could be a rough game. Norfolk dominated for most of the period, but didn't come away with anything. After the 1st, the Admirals had the 9-2 shot advantage. In the 2nd, the fortunes turned in the Bears direction. After getting through a 5-on-3 penalty kill, the Bears were able to get on the board first. Garrett Mitchell scored his 1st of the season, from Kris Newbury.

Even though they couldn't capitalize on a power play, they were able to take a 2-0 lead into intermission with 14 seconds left. Casey Wellman scored his 9th of the season, from Kris Newbury (2nd assist of the night) & Tomas Kundratek. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 18-17 shot advantage. Norfolk would do the same as the Bears in the previous period, and survive a 5-on-3 penalty kill. However, their rally would start a little too late, as they would score with 33 seconds left in the game. Louis Leblanc scored his 11th of the season, from Brendan Bell & Chris Wagner. The Bears would finished with the 24-21 shot advantage.

Recap

It's good to get 3 points out of a possible 4 on the weekend, but it could have been 4 out of 4 easily. Some timely mistakes gave Binghamton that extra point. Just like the previous game against Binghamton, the penalties were coming left and right. The only fight of the night occurred in the 1st, as it was between Binghamton's Alex Guptill and Hershey's Garrett Mitchell. Close to the end of a power play, at the 16:02 mark, the Bears got on the board. Dustin Gazley scored his 4th of the season, from Tomas Kundratek & Mike Cajkovsky (first AHL point). More than a minute later, the Bears increased their lead to two. Chris Brown scored his 8th of the season, from Chris Conner & Connor Carrick. After the 1st, the Senators had the 12-5 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Senators started to get those shots into the back of the net. Their first goal was only 1:31 into the period. Fredrik Claesson got his 3rd of the season, from Shane Prince & Carter Camper. Close to halfway through the period, and shortly after the Senators killed off a penalty, they were able to tie the game. Cole Schneider scored his 10th of the season, from Carter Camper (2nd assist of the night) & Shane Prince (2nd assist of the night). However, on a power play at the 17:48 mark, the Bears were able to retake the lead. Kris Newbury scored his 11th of the season, from Stanislav Galiev & Connor Carrick (2nd assist of the night). After the 2nd, Binghamton had the 22-16 shot advantage.

The 3rd did not have a whole lot going on. Binghamton's David Dziurzynski was charged with a double minor for high-sticking, but the Bears couldn't capitalize. However, when a penalty was charged to the Bears, the Senators were able to capitalize to tie the game at 3. Alex Grant scored his 4th of the season, from Chris Wideman & Shane Prince (3rd assist of the night). In the overtime period, the Senators were able to take advantage of a rush, and won the game 4-3. Ryan Dzingel scored his 8th of the season, from Fredrik Claesson (2nd point of the night). The Senators finished with the 31-25 shot advantage.

Recap

Back in the win column! A goalie injury might have been part of the reason for the win, but the Bears put in a strong game and got the victory. The story of the game was penalties. In the 1st, 8 penalties were given out, including 2 fights. The 1st fight was between Lehigh Valley's Steven Delisle & Hershey's Chris Brown. The 2nd fight was between Lehigh Valley's Oliver Lauridsen & Hershey's Dane Byers. The only goal of the period would come at the 5:08 mark from Lehigh Valley. Blair Jones scored his 3rd of the season, from Jason Akeson & Oliver Lauridsen. After the 1st, the Bears had the 11-6 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the penalties continued. Each team had plenty of chances, but neither could get past the goalies except at even strength. Another fight occurred, this time between Lehigh Valley's Derek Mathers & Hershey's Liam O'Brien. The Bears finally broke through past Anthony Stolarz (posted a shutout in the last game against Hershey) at the 13:26 mark. Chris Conner scored his 6th of the season, from Tim Kennedy and Steve Oleksy. Less than a minute and a half later, a turnover caused Lehigh Valley to take back the lead. Jay Rosehill scored his 1st of the season. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 24-19 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, the Bears started off with a 5-on-3 advantage. With 20 seconds left in the 2nd penalty, the power play master scored once again. Stanislav Galiev scored his 10th of the season, from Connor Carrick & Casey Wellman. A few seconds after this, Lehigh Valley's Anthony Stolarz had to leave the ice with some sort of injury. Martin Ouellette had to go into net out of nowhere. The penalties continued throughout the period, including a fight between Lehigh Valley's Brett Flemming & Hershey's Connor Carrick. After plenty of chances for the Bears, at the 15:58 mark, the Bears took the 3-2 lead. Cameron Schilling scored his 2nd of the season, from Chandler Stephenson & Dane Byers. At the 19:18 mark, the Bears put the game out of reach with an empty net goal. Casey Wellman got his 8th of the season. The game finished out with 5 penalties in the last 20 seconds. The Bears finished with the 42-24 shot advantage.

Recap

Another disappointing game, but at least they got a point out of this one. Both goalies played very well, with the opposing goalie playing just a bit better. In the 1st period, on a power play, Springfield was able to get on the board first. Austin Madaisky scored his 9th of the season, from T.J. Tynan & Luke Adam. After the 1st, the Falcons had the 10-6 shot advantage. In the 2nd, the Bears picked up their play and played just like last night's game. However, at the 5:34 mark, they were able to finally get a goal. Chandler Stephenson scored his 3rd of the season, from Dane Byers & Tomas Kundratek. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 20-18 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, the chances for both teams were numerous (including a power play for each), but Philipp Grubauer & Anton Forsberg stopped all the shots in the period. In the overtime period, the new rules with 4-on-4 and 3-on-3 proved that many scoring chances will be had. The Bears had some great chances, but a bounce here and there kept the puck from the back of the net. However, with one mistake, the Falcons were able to get a breakaway and win the game. T.J. Tynan scored his 3rd of the season (2nd point of the night), from Jaime Sifers & Frederic St. Denis. The Bears finished with the 35-28 shot advantage.

Recap

This is easily the most disappointing game of the season. The way the Bears played, they should have been up at least 4-0 by the end of this game. The Phantoms didn't show up until the 3rd period, and yet they came away with a win. The 1st period only had one event (a penalty against Lehigh Valley), and Hershey completely dominated. It was easily the best period that the Bears played all season, and they had nothing to show for it. After the 1st, the Bears had the 16-1 (you're reading that right, one) shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Bears continued their domination, but one bad pass ruined the game for them. The Phantoms were able to get a shorthanded goal on one of the penalties against them. Jason Akeson scored his 4th of the season, from Brett Hextall. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 24-6 shot advantage. In the 3rd, the Phantoms woke up and played well, but the Bears still had the best scoring chances. The Phantoms were able to add insult to injury with an empty-netter with 2 seconds left. Jason Akeson scored his 2nd of the night (5th of the season), from Darroll Powe. Anthony Stolarz, who wouldn't have played if it weren't for an injury on the Flyers (requiring a call-up from the Phantoms), finished with the 32-save shutout (Phantoms finished with 18 shots).

Next Game: Tomorrow vs. Springfield, 7:00

Note: The game tomorrow night will possibly start later than 7:00. There will be a pre-game ceremony for the 3rd class of the Hershey Bears Hockey Hall of Fame, and that could push the game time.

Recap

The Bears should be happy with getting a point in this game. It looked as if they would lose in regulation, but they got it to overtime somehow. The first period only had one penalty occur, and no scoring (much different from last night's game). After the 1st, the Penguins had the 6-5 shot advantage. In the 2nd, the scoring and penalties picked up. On their 2nd power play early in the period, the Bears took the 1-0 lead. Connor Carrick scored his 4th of the season, from Tim Kennedy & Stanislav Galiev. Later in the period, on a power play, the Penguins tied it up. Jean-Sebastien Dea scored his 8th of the season, from Josh Archibald & Tom Kostopoulos.

Only 38 seconds later, at the 16:24 mark, the Penguins took the lead. Dominik Uher scored his 4th of the season, from Adam Payerl & Reid McNeill. After the 2nd, the Penguins had the 19-13 shot advantage. In the 3rd, each team survived a few penalties in a matter of a couple minutes. It looked as if the Penguins would win the game...but with 2.7 seconds left, the Bears somehow tied it at 2. Chris Brown scored his 7th of the season, from Dane Byers. Hershey wasn't able to get anything going in overtime, and although Philipp Grubauer made a great save to stop the Penguins' first shot, he couldn't stop the second one. Adam Payerl scored his 1st of the season (2nd point of the night), from Conor Sheary & Derrick Pouliot. The Penguins finished with the 29-22 shot advantage.

It's been a while since I've seen a game that has had this many penalties in just the first two periods. After 7 penalties had already been given out (including two fights and 3 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties), a 2 goal surge for the Bears occurred in a matter of 1:25 starting at the 6:03 mark. The first goal went to Chris Brown (6th of the season), from Chris Conner & Tim Kennedy. The second goal went to Philippe Cornet (5th of the season), from Stanislav Galiev & Connor Carrick. After the 1st, the Bears had the 13-3 shot advantage, and the penalty minute count was at 32.

The 2nd period would be filled with more scoring and even more penalties. A power play goal would bring the Senators within one. Derek Grant scored his 8th of the season, from Shane Pierce & Carter Camper. Only 12 seconds into a power play, at the 8:22 mark, the Senators met Hershey's power play master. Stanislav Galiev scored his 9th of the season, from Chris Conner (2nd assist of the night) & Chris Brown (2nd point of the night). 1:36 later, the Bears increased their lead to three. Tim Kennedy scored his 2nd of the season (2nd point of the night), from Connor Carrick (2nd assist of the night) & Chris Conner (3rd assist of the night). At the 16:53 mark, chaos erupted. 9 penalties were given out: 4 for fighting, 2 game misconducts, 2 misconducts, and an unsportsmanlike conduct. After the crazy 2nd period, the Bears had the 27-11 shot advantage, and the penalty minute count was at 110.

The penalty count would not increase by a great amount in the 3rd, as it was a much quieter period. However, the Senators would start early (1:06 mark) to get back into the game. Derek Grant scored his 2nd of the night (9th of the season), from Buddy Robinson & Alex Grant. Each team would receive only one penalty in the period (a far cry from the previous periods), but neither could capitalize. At the 19:00 mark, with the empty net for the Senators, the Bears sealed the game. Chris Conner scored his 5th of the season (4th point of the night), from Chris Brown (2nd assist/3rd point of night) & Tim Kennedy (2nd assist/3rd point of night). The final penalty minute count was 114, and the Bears finished with the 32-20 shot advantage.

Recap

The Crunch just seems to have the Bears' number. In the season series thus far, Syracuse has outscored Hershey 13-3. Through the first two periods, however, it looked like it would be a low-scoring effort. Each team would get a penalty in the opening 10 minutes, but neither could get an goal. However, Syracuse would get another penalty, and at the 15:48 mark, Hershey's power play master scored once again. Stanislav Galiev got his 8th of the season, from Connor Carrick & Tim Kennedy. After the 1st period, the Crunch would have the 13-10 shot advantage.

A little over four minutes into the 2nd period, the Crunch would tie the game. Mike Angelidis scored his 9th of the season, from Henri Ikonen & Mike Blunden. The only other event of the period would lead to 26 penalty minutes being split between two players. Hershey's Steve Oleksy would get 17 minutes (instigating, fighting, and a misconduct), and Syracuse's Matthew Corrente would get 9 minutes (interference, roughing, and fighting). After the 2nd, the Crunch had the 27-18 shot advantage.

In the 3rd period, the Bears would keep the Crunch to 4 shots on goal. However, the Crunch would be able to get 3 goals on those shots. On the power play at the 15:03 mark, Joel Vermin would score his 7th of the season, from Dylan Blujus & Slater Koekkoek. A little over a minute later, Dalton Smith would scored his 7th of the season, from Vladislav Namestnikov & Jonathan Marchessault. After killing off a Bears power play, the Crunch would get their last goal with the empty net. Henri Ikonen got his 2nd of the season (2nd point of the night). The Crunch finished with the 31-30 shot advantage.

Recap

A disappointing game to lose. With how well the penalty kill did for all but one power play, the Bears just weren't able to get enough good chances on their power play. Tonight was the Teddy Bear Toss at the Giant Center, and the fans were able to throw their bears very quickly, as the Bears got on the board only 39 seconds into the game. Steve Oleksy scored his 4th of the season, from Tim Kennedy & Chris Conner. 15 seconds after killing off a penalty, at the 5:01 mark, the Penguins answered with a goal of their own. Derrick Pouliot scored his 4th of the season, from Tom Kostopoluos & Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond. Neither team could capitalize on their power plays in the period. After the 1st, the Penguins had the 12-6 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Bears were on the power play after a double minor that was given to Scott Harrington near the end of the 1st. A Hershey penalty took away 2 minutes of that time, but only 7 seconds after the Bears returned to the power play, they made it 2-1. Stanislav Galiev continues his hot play with his 7th of the season, from Chris Conner (2nd assist of the night) & Connor Carrick. At the 4:00 mark, only 1:03 after that goal, the Penguins tied it up. Bobby Farnham, the player that Bears' fans love to hate, scored his 1st of the season, from Alex Boak & Matia Marcantuoni. The Bears' penalty kill was lights out in the period, as they survived a 2 minute 5-on-3 followed by 1:25 of 5-on-4. After the 2nd, the Penguins had the 20-17 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, the Bears would once again start on the power play after a late penalty in the 2nd, but couldn't capitalize. However, on a penalty given to Chris Brown for tripping, the Penguins would get their first power play goal in 7 tries on the night (they would get 8 power plays total). Derrick Pouliot scored his 2nd of the night (5th of the season), from Tom Kostopoulos & Jean-Sebastien Dea. The Bears would get plenty of chances to tie it up throughout the rest of the period, including 2 power plays, but they couldn't capitalize on them. The Bears would finish with the 32-26 shot advantage.

Side Note: A new record was set tonight, as 17,295 teddy bears were thrown onto the ice as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Recap

Head Coach Troy Mann gave Pheonix Copley a start for the first time since November 23rd, and Copley made the most of it. With the win, the Bears are now 1st place in the East Division. The ref in this game mostly let them play, with only 5 penalties in the game. In the only penalty given to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the game, Hershey capitalized on it. Chris Conner scored his 3rd of the season, from Chris Brown & Tim Kennedy. The penalty kill continued to show why they lead the league right now. At the end of the 1st, the Bears had the 14-11 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the only event was a penalty against the Bears, which they were able to kill off once again. After the period, the Bears had the 24-22 shot advantage. After killing off another penalty in the 3rd, at the 8:36 mark, the Bears got an insurance goal. Chris Conner scored his 2nd of the game (4th of the season), from Tim Kennedy (2nd assist of the night). That goal would end up being important, as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would score with under 5 minutes left. Bryan Rust scored his 8th of the season, from Nick D'Agostino & Clark Seymour. Pheonix Copley stopped them for the rest of the period, and finished with 28 saves (shot advantage was tied at 29).

Recap

A game that was going the low-scoring route like most of the Bears' games have been suddenly turned into the offensive output that we've been waiting for. It had to have been an emotional game for Bridgeport's starting goalie David Leggio, as he was just a Bear a season ago. Starting off the in 1st period, Stanislav Galiev continued his hot streak. He scored his 5th of the season, from Chris Wellman & Chris Brown. Each team received two penalties, and only Bridgeport was able to capitalize on one of them. Scooter Vaughan scored his 4th of the season, from Harry Zolnierczyk & C.J. Stretch. After the 1st, the Sound Tigers had the 8-4 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the offensive chances started to increase. 26 shots were taken in the period, and that was helped along by the couple penalties in the period. After a Bridgeport penalty close to the end of the period, Hershey's power play master continued his success. Stanislav Galiev scored his 2nd of the game (6th of the season), from Tim Kennedy & Chris Conner. Hershey would start off the 3rd period with a power play. After the 2nd, the Sound Tigers had the 20-18 shot advantage. Each team had at least 12 shots in the period.

In the 3rd, the shots weren't happening as often, but with all the penalties, the chances were stronger. 6 goals were scored in the period. At the 2:46 mark, Hershey got the lead to 3-1. Joel Broda scored his 3rd of the season, from Garrett Mitchell & Dustin Gazley. At the 4:12 mark, the lead was increased to 4-1. Chris Brown scored his 4th of the season (2nd point of the night), from Chris Conner (2nd assist of the night) & Tim Kennedy (2nd assist of the night). 49 seconds later, on the power play, Bridgeport got within 2. Mike Halmo scored his 7th of the season, from Adam Pelech & C.J. Stretch (2nd assist of the night).

At the 9:06 mark, Bridgeport was able to get it within 1. Colin McDonald scored his 6th of the season, from Kael Mouillierat & Adam Pelech (2nd assist of the night). As it got towards the end of the period, the Bears were able to get two insurance goals, with the 2nd one being on the power play. The 1st goal was scored by Chris Brown (5th of the season, 2nd goal/3rd point of the night), from Tim Kennedy (3rd assist of the night) & Erik Burgdoerfer. The 2nd goal was scored by Chris Conner (2nd of the season, 3rd point of the night), from Stanislav Galiev (3rd point of the night) & Tim Kennedy (4th assist of the night). The Sound Tigers finished with the 27-24 shot advantage.

Recap

After the Bears were shut out by St. John's last Sunday, they returned the favor by shutting them out in this one. Philipp Grubauer continues to have a great few games, as he was lights out in this one. The 1st period gave each team a power play chance, but neither could capitalize. There was also a fight in the period between Hershey's Kris Newbury and the IceCaps' Will O'Neill. After the 1st, the IceCaps had the 10-8 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, due to two power plays, St. John's had the chances to score. Grubauer made sure that it stayed scoreless. After the 2nd, the IceCaps had the 25-14 shot advantage. At the start of the 3rd, the Bears were on the power play due to a penalty at the end of the 2nd. For the 3rd straight game, Stanislav Galiev got a goal on a power play (4th of the season), from Philippe Cornet & Tim Kennedy. Even with St. John's having 3 more power plays, the penalty kill and Philipp Grubauer stood strong. Grubauer finished with the 33-save shutout. Hershey finished with 21 shots on goal.

Recap

What was a close-fought game between two good teams turned into a mess very quickly. The 1st period continued to show how the Bears' goalies have been outstanding, but can't stop everything. Syracuse took the lead at the 6:06 mark. Philippe Paradis scored his 6th of the season, from Yanni Gourde & Joey Mormina. Each team had a couple power play chances, but they couldn't capitalize. At the end of the period, the Crunch had the 13-10 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, each team had many chances on the power play, and two fights. The 1st fight was between Hershey's Joel Broda and Syracuse's Jean-Philippe Cote. The 2nd fight was between Hershey's Erik Burgdoerfer and Syracuse's Tanner Richard. Syracuse got 2 extra minutes for that fight, and on that power play, the Bears tied it up. Stanislav Galiev scored his 3rd of the season, from Connor Carrick & Tim Kennedy. After the 2nd, the shot advantage was tied at 21.

In the 3rd, the Crunch started off early. Cody Kunyk scored his 3rd of the season, from Joel Vermin. On the 2nd power play that was given to the Crunch in the period, they made it 3-1. Cody Kunyk scored once again (4th of the season), from Joey Mormina (2nd assist of the night). That broke the 25-penalty streak that the Bears penalty kill had of not giving up a goal. Syracuse sealed the game with an empty-net goal with 56 seconds left. Jonathan Marchessault got his 8th of the season, from Yanni Gourde (2nd assist of the night). The Crunch finished with the 37-29 shot advantage.

Recap

I got to see this game in person, so that's why the blog post is a little later than normal. It truly was a uneventful game for such a heated rivalry. However, that doesn't mean it wasn't important to get the win, and that's what the Bears did. The first period only had one event, and that was Hershey's Caleb Herbert getting charged with hooking. After the 1st, the shots were tied at 8. In the 2nd, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton controlled play for a good amount of the period, but neither team were able to get anything on their power play. A fight did break out in the period between Hershey's Nathan Walker and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Josh Archibald. After the 2nd, the Pens had the 15-13 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, there were a few more penalties, and in that case, more chances to score. The Bears were finally able to get on the board with a power play goal at the 8:53 mark. Stanislav Galiev scored his 2nd of the season, from Connor Carrick & Tim Kennedy. Both teams continued to have chances, but it look like nothing would get past Philipp Grubauer. That would be proven wrong with 51 seconds to go. Brian Dumoulin scored his 2nd of the season, from Scott Wilson & Andrew Ebbett. Going into overtime, the shots were tied at 23. The overtime period has fast-paced action, but not a lot of good shots were able to be taken. The Bears finished with the 27-25 shot advantage. In the shootout, Hershey's Dustin Gazley and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's Jean-Sebastien Dea were able to score in the 2nd round. Hershey's Chris Brown in the 4th round, and Philipp Grubauer stopped Andrew Ebbett to win the game for the Bears.

Recap

After shutting out the Sharks last night, the Bears get shut out by the IceCaps tonight. Hershey had plenty of opportunities to get goals, but Connor Hellebuyck had a performance that rivaled Philipp Grubauer's from last night. The 1st period had some tough playing, as all 4 penalties in the period were for roughing (3 were against the Bears). Before the 2nd of the penalties, St. John's got on the board. Carl Klingberg scored his 5th of the season, from Chase Balisy & Julien Brouillette. After that period, the Bears had the 8-6 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Bears had a couple power play chances, but weren't able to capitalize, even with the 16 shots in the period. At the 11:45 mark, the IceCaps made it 2-0. Chase Balisy scored his 6th of the season (2nd point of the night), from John Albert & Carl Klingberg. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 24-17 shot advantage. In the 3rd, even though the Bears were able to kill off their penalties, they still weren't able to get past Hellebuyck. He finished with a 33-save shutout. St. John's finished the game with 28 shots.

Recap

Another brilliant game for Philipp Grubauer, and this time, it was a win. He made some spectacular saves through the entire game, and Hershey just did enough to help him. The tension in the game started off early with a fight 55 seconds in between Hershey's Dane Byers & Worcester's Taylor Doherty. Hershey would receive two penalties in the period along with the fight, but the penalty kill continued its great success on them. At the 16:38 mark, Hershey got on the board. Chris Brown scored his 3rd of the season, from Tomas Kundratek & Chandler Stephenson. After the 1st, the Sharks had the 11-8 shot advantage.

The 2nd, even though there weren't many penalties to show for it, became a little chippy. Due to that, there wasn't a great number of chances, but when there was, Grubauer made sure to keep his clean sheet. After one of his great saves, a fight broke out between Hershey's Steve Oleksy & Worcester's Jimmy Bonneau. After that period, the Sharks had the 19-14 shot advantage. In the 3rd, with one penalty given out to each team, there was the chance for scoring, especially on the Sharks' end. They doubled their shot total in one period to 38, but Grubauer saved every single one of them. Hershey finished with 20 shots.

Recap

What an interesting game. After how the 1st period went, the fact that the Bears came back and got a point out of this game is a testament to this team. Starting off early in the 1st, at the 3:21 mark, Lehigh Valley got on the board. Former Bear Andrew Gordon scored his 4th of the season, from Blair Jones & Robert Hagg. 3 and a half minutes later, Lehigh Valley made it 2-0. Brandon Manning scored his 4th of the season, from Petr Straka. Philipp Grubauer was a big part of why this period wasn't any worse, as he made 18 saves in the period. After the 1st, the Phantoms had the 20-9 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Bears played with a much better attitude and style. They couldn't score on their first power play chance, but they did on their 2nd chance. At the 17:12 mark, Dane Byers scored his 4th of the season, from Chris Conner & Kris Newbury. After the 2nd, the Phantoms had the 25-19 shot advantage. Early in the 3rd, at the 3:30 mark, the Bears tied it at 2. Kris Newbury scored his 10th of the season, from Connor Carrick & Dane Byers (2nd point of the night). The Phantoms had the 32-28 shot advantage going into overtime. With the new overtime rules, the play was fast-paced and hectic. The Bears penalty kill stepped away and helped the team survive a 4-on-3 power play. The Phantoms finished with the 39-29 shot advantage. In the shootout (now 3 rounds with the new rules), the only person to score was Lehigh Valley's Blair Jones. Philipp Grubauer took the loss in a great 37-save performance.

Recap

The Bears needed this win. They had been struggling the past few games, but they got one in the win column tonight. Plenty of chances came to the Bears in the 1st period, but the Pens were able to get the one goal. At the 11:14 mark, Jayson Megna scored his 7th of the season, from Reid McNeill & Scott Wilson. After the 1st, the Bears had the 12-4 shot advantage. Starting off quickly in the 2nd, 38 seconds in, the Pens got the 2-0 lead. Jayson Megna scored his 2nd of the game (8th of the season). After the Pens got their first penalty of the period, the Bears scored on the power play to cut the lead in half. Philippe Cornet scored his 4th of the season, from Tim Kennedy & Connor Carrick.

After a number of penalties for each team (including a missed penalty shot by the Pens), the Bears were able to score once again on the power play. Connor Carrick scored his 3rd of the season (2nd point of the night), from Tim Kennedy (2nd assist of the night) & Stanislav Galiev. After 34 penalty minutes were given out at the same time, the Bears received a penalty shot. Chandler Stephenson scored his 2nd of the season on the penalty shot. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 26-14 shot advantage. In the 3rd, the Bears had numerous chances to score, but almost every shot hit the post. It wouldn't matter, however, as the Pens wouldn't be able to get a shot past Philipp Grubauer in the period. The Bears finished with the 35-18 shot advantage. There were 21 penalties (84 minutes) given out in the game.

Recap

After how the weekend started with the 2nd straight shutout, it looked like it would be another great weekend for the Bears. Instead, it turned into a disappointing one. Right off the bat, Hershey would give up an early goal once again (just like last night). This time, however, it would be on a penalty shot. It was Jordan Weal's 2nd goal of the season. However, Hershey would answer back later in the 1st. Kris Newbury scored his 6th of the season, from Casey Wellman & Dane Byers. Hershey's penalty kill would take center stage in this period, as they did very well to make sure the game would stay tied. At the end of the 1st, the Monarchs would have the 9-7 shot advantage.

The 2nd period would have a couple penalties go against the Monarchs, but the Bears couldn't capitalize on them. However, Manchester would get the lead back in this period. At the 8:39 mark, Nick Shore would score his 2nd of the season, from Michael Mersch & Derek Forbort. After the 2nd, the shots were even at 19. The 3rd period would include a couple more penalties for the Monarchs, but once again, the Bears couldn't capitalize on them. The Monarchs actually would capitalize on one, as they got a shorthanded goal from Nick Shore (3rd goal of the season, 2nd of the game). The Bears would finish with the 28-22 shot advantage.

Pheonix Copley's shutout streak was broken very quickly and often in this game. Hershey made a great effort to come back, but it would be too late. Going to the 2nd period, around 4 minutes in, the Bears got on the board. Philippe Cornet scored his 3rd of the season, from Tim Kennedy & Cameron Schilling.

Recap

What a way to start the home season! If you made it past the box score to read the recap, I thank you. There was much going on in this game, especially in those final few minutes. In the 1st period, the penalties started off early, and the goals were in a short window. After one of the Penguins' penalties, the Bears power play struck once again. Tim Kennedy scored his 1st of the season, from Kris Newbury & Tomas Kundratek. 40 seconds later, the Bears doubled the lead. Dane Byers scored his 2nd of the season, from Jon Landry & Tomas Kundratek (2nd assist of the night). After the 1st, the Bears had the 14-10 shot advantage.

24 seconds into the 2nd period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton cut the lead in half. Jayson Megna scored his 2nd of the season, from Tom Kuhnhackl & Andrew Ebbett. The penalties continued throughout the period, with 9 being handed out. In the middle of two penalties, Hershey once again struck on the power play. Casey Wellman scored his 5th of the season, from Tomas Kundratek (3rd assist of the night) & Kris Newbury (2nd assist of the night). 3 minutes later, a rare penalty shot was given to Hershey. Dustin Gazley took the shot, and capitalized on it for his 2nd goal of the season to make it 4-1. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 23-19 shot advantage.

The 3rd period didn't have any goals, but it's the period that everything got out of control. For most of the period, there were actually less penalties than in the previous periods. However, at the 17:18 mark, everything was insane. 10 penalties were given out, 8 for fighting. For Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Brian Dumoulin, Bobby Farnham (who got 3 penalties), and Dominik Uher. For Hershey, it was Joel Broda, Philippe Cornet, Jon Landry, and Steve Oleksy. 29 penalties were given out during the entire game. The Bears finished with the 28-27 shot advantage (Philipp Grubauer got the win with 26 saves).

Recap

When we look back on the beginning of the season in a few months, this could be a turning point game. Hershey had the lead with a good advantage in shots, and it all went away in a matter of about 2 minutes. The first period started off a little slowly, with not much happening until the 2nd half of the period. After 4 penalties for 2 players, Hershey got the 1st goal in. Kris Newbury scored his 4th of the season, from Casey Wellman. 2 more penalties finished out the period. At the end of the 1st, the Bears had the 12-7 shot advantage.

The 2nd period was filled with penalties. 11 penalties were given out in the period, including a fight between Hershey's Tim Spencer and Lehigh Valley's Jay Rosehill. On one of the power plays they had, at the 11:11 mark, Lehigh Valley tied it up. Darroll Powe scored his 1st of the season, from Robert Hagg & Brandon Manning. Around 3 minutes later, on a power play, the Bears got the lead back. Casey Wellman scored his 4th of the season (2nd point of the night), from Tomas Kundratek & Connor Carrick. After the 2nd, the Phantoms had the 20-19 shot advantage.

The 3rd period had a fight between Hershey's Garrett Mitchell and Lehigh Valley's Steven Delisle, but no other penalties were given out. Even with the Bears having a distinct shot advantage in this period, they couldn't capitalize. Lehigh Valley was able to in their small chances, as they scored 3 goals in a matter of 1:53. The 1st goal was scored by Taylor Leier (1st of the season), from Mark Alt & Nick Cousins. The 2nd goal (and the game-winner) was scored by Darroll Powe (2nd of the night/season), from Andrew Gordon (the former Bear) & Scott Laughton. The 3rd goal was scored by Petr Straka (2nd of the season), from Nick Cousins (2nd assist of the night) & Zack Stortini. Hershey finished with the 31-24 shot advantage.

Recap

If the Bears didn't win this game, it would have been a disappointment. They dominated just about all of the game, but Jason Missiaen was a brick wall for almost 67 minutes. Somehow, they got that goal in to make it 3 straight wins! The Bears were playing against a few former Bears in this game (Chris Bourque, Ryan Potulny, and Joey Crabb). The 1st and 2nd periods were filled with penalties, and many chances for the Bears. 8 penalties were given out in the 1st, and 7 were given out in the 2nd (8 to Hartford, 7 to Hershey). Neither team could capitalize on their power plays. After those 2 periods, the Bears had the 22-8 shot advantage.

There weren't as many chances for the Bears in the 3rd, but the Wolf Pack had a couple more than in the previous periods. 3 penalties were given out, 2 of them being from a fight between Hershey's Tim Spencer & Hartford's Samuel Noreau. The shot advantage in the 3rd was close (8-6 in favor of Hershey), but it continued the 30-14 advantage for the Bears. Hershey would see the new overtime rules in place for the 1st time this season. The overtime period is now 7 minutes, with the first 3 minutes being 4-on-4. The rest of the overtime period is 3-on-3. The 3-on-3 brought a lot of fastbreaks, and that lead to Hartford's Dylan McIlrath getting a penalty for tripping at the 5:58 mark. On the power play (4-on-3, each team added a player), Hershey would get a few chances, but Missiaen kept saving them...until 2 seconds left in overtime. Casey Wellman got the goal (3rd of the season/weekend), with an assist from Connor Carrick. Hershey finished with the 37-15 shot advantage, with Pheonix Copley getting the shutout.

Next Game: Friday at Lehigh Valley, 7:05
