In the 2nd period, the Bears offense came alive. At the 11:37 mark, the Bears got on the board. Chris Brown scored his 1st of the season, from Casey Wellman (2nd assist of the night, 3rd point of the night). As the game went into the 3rd, the Bears got hit with a few more penalties, but the penalty kill went 6-for-6 on the night. 3 seconds before the end of the game, the Bears finished off the 4-0 victory. Steve Oleksy scored his 2nd of the season, from Mike Moore. The Monarchs finished with the 26-23 shot advantage (Philipp Grubauer got the shutout for the Bears).

Recap

What a way to start the home season! If you made it past the box score to read the recap, I thank you. There was much going on in this game, especially in those final few minutes. In the 1st period, the penalties started off early, and the goals were in a short window. After one of the Penguins' penalties, the Bears power play struck once again. Tim Kennedy scored his 1st of the season, from Kris Newbury & Tomas Kundratek. 40 seconds later, the Bears doubled the lead. Dane Byers scored his 2nd of the season, from Jon Landry & Tomas Kundratek (2nd assist of the night). After the 1st, the Bears had the 14-10 shot advantage.

24 seconds into the 2nd period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton cut the lead in half. Jayson Megna scored his 2nd of the season, from Tom Kuhnhackl & Andrew Ebbett. The penalties continued throughout the period, with 9 being handed out. In the middle of two penalties, Hershey once again struck on the power play. Casey Wellman scored his 5th of the season, from Tomas Kundratek (3rd assist of the night) & Kris Newbury (2nd assist of the night). 3 minutes later, a rare penalty shot was given to Hershey. Dustin Gazley took the shot, and capitalized on it for his 2nd goal of the season to make it 4-1. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 23-19 shot advantage.

The 3rd period didn't have any goals, but it's the period that everything got out of control. For most of the period, there were actually less penalties than in the previous periods. However, at the 17:18 mark, everything was insane. 10 penalties were given out, 8 for fighting. For Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Brian Dumoulin, Bobby Farnham (who got 3 penalties), and Dominik Uher. For Hershey, it was Joel Broda, Philippe Cornet, Jon Landry, and Steve Oleksy. 29 penalties were given out during the entire game. The Bears finished with the 28-27 shot advantage (Philipp Grubauer got the win with 26 saves).

Recap

When we look back on the beginning of the season in a few months, this could be a turning point game. Hershey had the lead with a good advantage in shots, and it all went away in a matter of about 2 minutes. The first period started off a little slowly, with not much happening until the 2nd half of the period. After 4 penalties for 2 players, Hershey got the 1st goal in. Kris Newbury scored his 4th of the season, from Casey Wellman. 2 more penalties finished out the period. At the end of the 1st, the Bears had the 12-7 shot advantage.

The 2nd period was filled with penalties. 11 penalties were given out in the period, including a fight between Hershey's Tim Spencer and Lehigh Valley's Jay Rosehill. On one of the power plays they had, at the 11:11 mark, Lehigh Valley tied it up. Darroll Powe scored his 1st of the season, from Robert Hagg & Brandon Manning. Around 3 minutes later, on a power play, the Bears got the lead back. Casey Wellman scored his 4th of the season (2nd point of the night), from Tomas Kundratek & Connor Carrick. After the 2nd, the Phantoms had the 20-19 shot advantage.

The 3rd period had a fight between Hershey's Garrett Mitchell and Lehigh Valley's Steven Delisle, but no other penalties were given out. Even with the Bears having a distinct shot advantage in this period, they couldn't capitalize. Lehigh Valley was able to in their small chances, as they scored 3 goals in a matter of 1:53. The 1st goal was scored by Taylor Leier (1st of the season), from Mark Alt & Nick Cousins. The 2nd goal (and the game-winner) was scored by Darroll Powe (2nd of the night/season), from Andrew Gordon (the former Bear) & Scott Laughton. The 3rd goal was scored by Petr Straka (2nd of the season), from Nick Cousins (2nd assist of the night) & Zack Stortini. Hershey finished with the 31-24 shot advantage.

Recap

If the Bears didn't win this game, it would have been a disappointment. They dominated just about all of the game, but Jason Missiaen was a brick wall for almost 67 minutes. Somehow, they got that goal in to make it 3 straight wins! The Bears were playing against a few former Bears in this game (Chris Bourque, Ryan Potulny, and Joey Crabb). The 1st and 2nd periods were filled with penalties, and many chances for the Bears. 8 penalties were given out in the 1st, and 7 were given out in the 2nd (8 to Hartford, 7 to Hershey). Neither team could capitalize on their power plays. After those 2 periods, the Bears had the 22-8 shot advantage.

There weren't as many chances for the Bears in the 3rd, but the Wolf Pack had a couple more than in the previous periods. 3 penalties were given out, 2 of them being from a fight between Hershey's Tim Spencer & Hartford's Samuel Noreau. The shot advantage in the 3rd was close (8-6 in favor of Hershey), but it continued the 30-14 advantage for the Bears. Hershey would see the new overtime rules in place for the 1st time this season. The overtime period is now 7 minutes, with the first 3 minutes being 4-on-4. The rest of the overtime period is 3-on-3. The 3-on-3 brought a lot of fastbreaks, and that lead to Hartford's Dylan McIlrath getting a penalty for tripping at the 5:58 mark. On the power play (4-on-3, each team added a player), Hershey would get a few chances, but Missiaen kept saving them...until 2 seconds left in overtime. Casey Wellman got the goal (3rd of the season/weekend), with an assist from Connor Carrick. Hershey finished with the 37-15 shot advantage, with Pheonix Copley getting the shutout.

Recap

The goals just keep on coming! This offense is high-powered, and it will be interesting to see if they can keep this up. This game didn't have as many penalties as the previous two games against Norfolk, but it still had its exciting moments. Around 2 minutes in, Hershey went on the power play, and they made sure they didn't waste the opportunity. Casey Wellman scored his 1st of the season, from Tim Kennedy & Kris Newbury. Later in the period, within a 2 minute window, 3 penalties were given out (2 to Hershey), but nothing came of those penalties. After the 1st, the Bears had the 13-8 shot advantage.

The 2nd period didn't have a whole lot going on, and everything that happened occurred between a window of a few minutes. Hershey couldn't capitalize on a penalty given to Springfield at the 5:16 mark. A little more than 30 seconds after a fight between Hershey's Steve Oleksy and Springfield's Ryan Craig, the lead was increased to two. Casey Wellman scored his 2nd goal of the season (and the night), from Kris Newbury (2nd assist of the night). After the 2nd, the Bears continued to have the shot advantage, now at 23-14.

At the 3:36 mark, during a power play, Springfield cut the lead in half to 2-1. Domenic Monardo scored his 2nd of the season, from Denny Urban & Sean Collins. A penalty was given out to Springfield 12 seconds later, but Hershey couldn't capitalize. Power plays were traded back-and-forth in the middle of the period (2 for Springfield, 1 for Hershey). 48 seconds after the final power play for Springfield, at the 13:51 mark, Hershey got an insurance goal. Philippe Cornet scored his 2nd of the season, from Caleb Herbert & Tim Kennedy (2nd assist of the night). With 20 seconds left in the game, Hershey got an empty netter to make it 4-1. Dustin Gazley got his 1st of the season, from Caleb Herbert (2nd assist of the night) & Steve Oleksy. Hershey finished with the 30-21 shot advantage (Philipp Grubauer got his 1st win of the season with 20 saves).

Recap

This team certainly knows how to score! That's 9 goals in the first two games of the season. If they keep this up, this could be one exciting year. In the 1st period, it started off with two Bears goals. At the 8:35 mark, Stanislav Galiev scored his 1st of the season, from Jon Landry & Tomas Kundratek. The 2nd goal, at the 10:07 mark, was scored by Chris Conner (1st of season), with assists from Tim Kennedy & Cameron Schilling. The rest of the period was penalties. Hershey had 3 (Mitchell for fighting, Oleksy for tripping and high-sticking), and Norfolk had 3 (Winchester for fighting, Blacker for tripping, and a bench minor for too many men on the ice). After the 1st, the Bears had the 15-11 shot advantage.

The 2nd period started off with another Bears goal. Kris Newbury scored his 2nd of the season unassisted. A little more than a minute later, Norfolk got on the board. Chris Wagner scored his 4th goal of the season (4 goals in 2 games), with an assist from Brad Winchester. The penalties continued in this period, as 8 were given out. Norfolk's Brad Winchester would receive 3 penalties in a matter of 8 and a half minutes or so (tripping, interference, and a game misconduct for continuing an altercation). At the 19:27 mark (and between a couple penalties), Hershey would widen its lead to 4-1. Joel Broda scored his 1st of the season, from Steve Oleksy. The Bears had the 25-21 shot advantage after this period.

The 3rd would have a couple goals, but would once again have a good amount of penalties. At the 2:30 mark, Norfolk shrank the lead to 2. Matt Bailey scored his 1st of the season, from Louis Leblanc & Andrew O'Brien. 11 minutes later, and just after a 5-on-3 for the Bears ended, Hershey made it 5-2. Kris Newbury scored his 3rd of the season (2nd goal of the night), from Dustin Gazley & Jon Landry (2nd assist of the night). Norfolk would receive 4 more penalties (2 for unsportsmanlike conduct) before the game was over. The Bears finished with the 37-31 shot advantage. In his 1st AHL game, Pheonix Copley had 29 saves for the Bears.

Recap

What a crazy way to start off the new season. The first two periods were filled with goals and penalties. Hershey started off early with a goal at the 3:23 mark from Kris Newbury, with assists from Tomas Kundratek and Dane Byers. A few seconds later, a penalty against Norfolk led to two goals. Norfolk tied it up with a shorthanded goal by Chris Wagner. Less than a minute later, Hershey took the lead back with a power play goal. Philippe Cornet scored his 1st goal as a Bear, with assists to Cameron Schilling and Kris Newbury (2nd point of the game). Another penalty against the Admirals at the 8:50 mark led to another two goals. Chris Wagner scored another shorthanded goal, with an assist from Brad Winchester. 26 seconds after that goal, Hershey scored another power play goal. Dane Byers got the goal, with assists from Philippe Cornet (2nd point of the game) and Kris Newbury (2nd assist of the game, 3rd point of the game). At the 16:35 mark, with some penalties around it, Norfolk tied the game at 3. Andrew O'Brien scored the goal, with assists from Nathan McIver and Louis Leblanc. After the 1st, the Bears had the 17-10 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the goals were less, but the penalties were still going. At the end of a power play, at the 4:40 mark, Norfolk took the 4-3 lead. Louis Leblanc scored the goal, with the assists from Stefan Noesen and Nic Kerdiles. 4 minutes later, Hershey tied the game back up. Steve Oleksy got the goal, with the assist from Cameron Schilling (2nd assist of the game). 9 penalties followed that goal throughout the period, leading to 15 penalties in the game. Hershey had the shot advantage still at 26-18. In the 3rd period, the only event was the game-winning goal for Norfolk at the 10:39 mark. Chris Wagner got a hat trick with the goal, with the assists from Mat Clark and Brad Winchester (2nd assist of the game). Hershey finished with the shot advantage at 37-23.

Plan for Preseason Games

Hello everyone! The Bears will start their preseason tonight against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The preseason games will not be broadcasted anywhere, so I will try my best to somehow get the full info on each game as it happens. If I'm able to do that, my plan will be just to do the box score for each game (no recaps, they will return when the regular season begins). If I can not, I will try my best to find the statistics so that I will make one big post at the end of the preseason (ends on Sunday). If you don't see a post sometime late tonight, you will know to look for one late Sunday night that will talk about the entire preseason and how it went for the Bears. Thank you for your understanding, and GO BEARS!
