Recap

This was one crazy game. As has been the issue in a good amount of games, the Hershey power play continues to struggle. This could have been a much different game, but the Phantoms stole the momentum in the 2nd and it seemed that they would never look back. However, the comeback kids would make it interesting again. The 1st period would feature 4 power play chances for the Bears, but the only goal would come shorthanded for the Phantoms. Cole Bardreau scored his 3rd of the season, from Taylor Leier & Davis Drewiske. After the 1st, the Bears had the 9-8 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, even with the power play woes, it looked like the Bears had turned a corner. At the 7:11 mark, the game was tied at one. Mike Moore scored his 4th of the season, from Madison Bowey & Riley Barber. 1:30 later, the Bears took the lead. Madison Bowey scored his 3rd of the season (2nd point of night), from Sean Collins & Scott Gomez. Once again, around 1:30 later, the Bears would get the lead to two. Paul Carey scored his 13th of the season, from Scott Gomez (2nd assist of night) & Aaron Ness. However, the momentum would go away as fast as it came. At the 13:19 mark, the Phantoms shrunk the lead to one. Cole Bardreau scored his 2nd of the night (4th of season), from Colin McDonald. With 2:21 left in the period, the game was tied at three. Davis Drewiske scored his 2nd of the season (2nd point of night), from Chris Conner & Aaron Palushaj. With 1:08 left, and on a power play, the Phantoms took the lead. In the 3rd, it originally looked like that the Bears power play woes would destroy their chances. At the 4:14 mark, on a power play of their own, the Phantoms made it 5-3. Colin McDonald scored his 4th of the season (2nd point of night), from Chris Conner (3rd assist of night) & Taylor Leier (2nd assist/3rd point of night). However, the comeback would happen fast. At the 13:06 mark, the Bears got it to within one. Travis Boyd scored his 9th of the season, from Sean Collins (2nd assist of night) & Connor Carrick. 1:11 later, the Bears would finally strike gold on the power play to tie the game at five. Chris Bourque scored his 20th of the season, from Scott Gomez (3rd assist of night) & Riley Barber. The overtime period would have chances on each side, with a goal review coming late that would be called no goal for the Phantoms. In the shootout, Chris Bourque would start the Bears off right, but two straight goals from the Phantoms (Taylor Leier & Nick Cousins) would prove to be enough for the victory. Hope everyone is staying safe during this crazy snowstorm. The Bears were able to dominate most of the game (except for the 3rd period), and it was enough to help Dan Ellis in his shutout. The 1st period was a quick one, with barely any stoppages. However, one of those stoppages would be the 1st goal on the board for Hershey. Mike Moore scored his 3rd of the season, from Paul Carey & Chris Bourque. After the 1st, the Bears had the 14-12 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Bears would distance themselves from the Senators. They dominated in the shot totals of the period, and it showed on the scoreboard. At the 10:13 mark, the lead increased to two. Chris Bourque scored his 19th of the season, from Scott Gomez (1st AHL point) & Paul Carey (2nd assist of night). Around 3 minutes later, the score would be 3-0. This game had many ups and downs, but the Bears just couldn't keep up the energy. 5 points out of 3 straight games is a good weekend. The stoppages were coming left and right with many icing calls throughout the 1st period. 6:39 in, the Bears would get the 1st goal. Dustin Gazley scored his 9th of the season, from Chris Brown & Caleb Herbert. 39 seconds later, the game was tied at one. Greg Carey scored his 13th of the season, unassisted. After the 1st, the Bears had the 10-6 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, a high-sticking call against the Bears would go against them, as the Falcons would score on that power play. Alex Grant scored his 8th of the season, from Dustin Jeffrey & Craig Cunningham. A 5 minute major penalty for boarding (and game misconduct) would go against Springfield's Laurent Dauphin, but the Bears couldn't capitalize on it. Going into this game, it wasn't sure if the momentum from the huge comeback last night would continue. That was answered emphatically in this one, as the Bears had a great gameplan and got a great performance from Dan Ellis. The first period would be light on events, but with 1:27 left in the period, the Bears got on the board. Garrett Mitchell scored his 5th of the season, from Nathan Walker. After the 1st, the Bears had the 12-7 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the power play would finally wake up for the Bears. At the 11:56 mark, the lead was increased to two. Chris Bourque scored his 12th of the season, from Riley Barber & Travis Boyd. At the 14:11 mark, the lead would increase to three. Sean Collins scored his 7th of the season, from Dustin Gazley. Around 30 seconds later, a scary moment would happen as Hershey's captain Garrett Mitchell was hit head-first into the boards by Bridgeport's Matt Carkner. Mitchell was able to skate off the ice under his own power, so here's hoping he's okay. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 25-20 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, the lead would just grow bigger. 1:18 into the period, it was now 4-0. Chris Bourque scored his 2nd of the night (13th of season), from Travis Boyd (2nd assist of night). A fight would occur at the 7:28 mark (probably stemming from the hit on Mitchell) between Hershey's Liam O'Brien and Bridgeport's Matt Carkner. Towards the end of the period, the Bears would get one more to make it 5-0. Dustin Gazley scored his 6th of the season (2nd point of night), from Caleb Herbert. Dan Ellis finished with the 32-save shutout (Hershey also had 32 shots on goal).

I'm not sure I have words for what just happened. I'm pretty sure no one thought that this comeback could happen, but it did. What a way to end a losing streak. Starting off the scoring in the 1st, the Senators would be able to get a shorthanded goal 4:24 in. Ryan Penny scored his 1st of the season, from Buddy Robinson. 1:33 later, the Bears would tie the game up. Nathan Walker scored his 6th of the season, from Garrett Mitchell & Paul Carey. With 6:57 left in the period, the Senators would be able to take the 2-1 lead. Matt Puempel scored his 11th of the season, from Cole Schneider & Michael Sdao. After the 1st, the Bears had the 12-9 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the Senators would try to put the game out of reach. 2:03 in, the lead was increased to two. Travis Ewanyk scored his 2nd of the season, from Cole Schneider (2nd assist of night) & Ryan Penny (2nd point of night). 38 seconds later, it was 4-1. Buddy Robinson scored his 6th of the season (2nd point of night), from Ryan Dzingel & Eric O'Dell. It was looking like the Bears would be one goal away at the end, but with 1:12 left, they were able to tie the game at 5.
