Recap

The Bears finally got a point in a game against Syracuse. This was a much closer game than their previous encounters, and was a very exciting one at that. The 1st period would be filled with penalties, but nothing would be put onto the scoreboard. After the 1st, the Crunch had the 10-5 shot advantage. 1:29 into the period, the Crunch would be given a penalty shot. However, Pheonix Copley would be able to make the save. A little less than 3 minutes later, Syracuse would get the first goal. Tanner Richard scored his 7th of the season, from Yanni Gourde & Philippe Paradis. On a Hershey power play at the 6:32 mark, a bad pass would lead to a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0 Crunch. Yanni Gourde scored his 16th of the season (2nd point of the night), from Mike Angelidis.

The Bears would make sure that this wouldn't be another blowout, as they would score at the 17:03 mark. Kris Newbury got his 14th of the season, from Dane Byers & Dustin Gazley. After the 2nd, the Crunch had the 24-18 shot advantage. In the 3rd, the penalties would once again come out, and on a power play at the 9:55, Hershey would get one of the strangest goals this season to tie it at 2. Philippe Cornet scored his 7th of the season, from Stanislav Galiev & Tomas Kundratek. The Bears' penalty kill would help the team survive some late penalties to make it to overtime. Overtime would bring nothing, so the game went to a shootout. Syracuse's Jonathan Marchessault would score in the 2nd round, and that would be the only goal of the shootout. The shots ended up being tied at 32.

Recap

The Bears go into the All-Star break with a 4 game win streak! If it weren't for a certain call in the 1st period, this game probably wouldn't have gone to overtime. This game was not as penalty filled as the past few games have been, but it still kept up an exciting pace. 32 seconds in, the first fight already occurred between Binghamton's Darren Kramer & Hershey's Liam O'Brien. A few seconds after killing off a penalty, the Senators would take the 1-0 lead. Buddy Robinson scored his 7th of the season. The Bears would get a goal that would have tied it, but the referee waived it off due to a blown whistle. After the 1st, the Bears had the 14-9 shot advantage.

The 2nd period would pick up the scoring. A fight would occur at the 12:26 mark between Binghamton's Buddy Robinson & Hershey's Kris Newbury. 10 seconds later, the Bears would tie the game. Chris Conner scored his 9th of the season, from Tim Kennedy. 39 seconds later, another fight would occur, this time between Binghamton's David Dziurzynski & Hershey's Erik Burgdoerfer. At the 15:22 mark, the Bears would take the lead on a power play. Jim O'Brien scored his 2nd of the season, from Casey Wellman & Philippe Cornet. 37 seconds later, the Senators would tie it up. Carter Camper scored his 5th of the season, from Shane Prince & Cole Schneider. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 27-19 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, each team had chances to get the winning goal with power plays, but neither were able to get on into the net. In the overtime period, the Bears didn't waste much time as they scored 54 seconds in to get the 3-2 victory. Connor Carrick got his 6th of the season, from Tim Kennedy (2nd assist of the night) & Cameron Schilling. The Bears finished with the 36-27 shot advantage. At the All-Star break, the Bears have 51 points (23-13-4-1), and are first place in the division.

Next Game: Friday at Lehigh Valley, 7:05

Note: I will post, as I did last season, the statistics for the team at the All-Star break. That post should be coming within the next couple days.

Recap

Including this game, that is now 17 goals in the past three games. It's safe to say that the Bears' offense has found whatever was missing for most of the season. The Bears controlled almost all play through the entire game. The only issue was the amount of penalties taken, but the Phantoms took just as many. The 1st period started off with a power play goal for Lehigh Valley. Petr Straka scored his 9th of the season, from Brett Hextall. After this goal, the Bears took over. 10 seconds after they killed a power play, they tied the score at 1. Casey Wellman scored his 13th of the season, from Connor Carrick.

Less than 2 minutes later, Hershey took a 2-1 lead on the power play with their power play master. Stanislav Galiev scored his 14th of the season, from Chris Conner & Connor Carrick (2nd assist of the night). At the 14:40 mark, the Bears scored a shorthanded goal to make it 3-1. Jim O'Brien scored his 1st of the season, from Dustin Gazley. The Phantoms would change goalies at this point, as Anthony Stolarz would come in for Martin Ouellette. The 1st period would finish with a couple fights. The first fight was between Lehigh Valley's Brandon Manning & Hershey's Steve Oleksy. The second fight was between Lehigh Valley's Brett Flemming & Hershey's Erik Burgdoerfer. After the 1st, the Phantoms had the 9-7 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the penalties and the Bears' goals continued. 4:05 into the period, the Bears increased their lead to 3. Chris Brown scored his 11th of the season, from Stanislav Galiev (2nd point of the night) & Tim Kennedy. On the 5-on-3 at the 9:50 mark, the Bears got their 3rd power play goal to make it 5-1. Connor Carrick scored his 5th of the season (3rd point of the night), from Tim Kennedy (2nd assist of the night) & Casey Wellman (2nd point of the night). Around two and a half minutes later, Hershey would make it 6-1. Kris Newbury scored his 13th of the season, from Chris Brown (2nd point of the night) & Philippe Cornet. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 20-15 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, the penalties would still continue, but the scoring would slow down a bit. The Phantoms would get two more misconduct penalties in the period to go along with a fight between Steven Delisle and Hershey's Liam O'Brien. Hershey would not be done in the scoring, as they would get their 7th goal of the game at the 10:03 mark. Tim Kennedy scored his 4th of the season (3rd point of the night), from Chris Conner (2nd assist of the night) & Stanislav Galiev (2nd assist/3rd point of the night). The Phantoms showed no quit, as they would get a power play goal to make it 7-2. Brandon Manning scored his 7th of the season, from Nick Cousins & Jason Akeson. Philipp Grubauer would get 23 saves in a strong performance (Hershey finished with 30 shots).

Recap

A great team win to put some breathing room between the Bears and the Penguins in the division. The penalty kill rebounded from last night's performance to put up a perfect 8-for-8 on the night. Although it wasn't as early as last night, the Bears started off the scoring at the 5:41 mark. Tim Kennedy scored his 3rd of the season on a breakaway right after a penalty kill. Less than two minutes later, a turnover would lead to a former Bear tying the score at one for the Phantoms. Andrew Gordon got his 12th of the season. It would be later in the period (the 15:31 mark) that the Bears would take back the lead. Dane Byers scored his 5th of the season, from Kris Newbury & Cameron Schilling. The Bears would finish off the scoring with a power play goal a minute after. Chris Conner scored his 8th of the season, from Tim Kennedy (2nd point of the night) & Connor Carrick. After the 1st, the Bears had the 10-8 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the penalties would continue, but none of them would lead to goals. However, at the 6:55 mark, the Phantoms would get within one. Oliver Lauridsen scored his 2nd of the season, from Kevin Goumas & Brett Flemming. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 27-20 shot advantage. The 3rd would not have as many penalties, but the goals would continue for the Bears. At the 15:27 mark, they got the important insurance goal to put it out of reach. Dane Byers scored his 2nd of the night (6th of season), from Dustin Gazley & Erik Burgdoerfer. With 10 seconds left, the Bears would finish the scoring with an empty-net goal to win 5-2. Dustin Gazley scored his 5th of the season (2nd point of night), from Jim O'Brien & Cameron Schilling (2nd assist of the night). Pheonix Copley would get the win with his 28-save performance (Hershey had 37 shots).

Recap

What a game! Filled with numerous penalties and numerous goals on those penalties, this was an exciting one. This win puts the Bears in 1st place in the division! The Bears started off very quickly, as they got their first goal 10 seconds into the game. Casey Wellman got his 12th of the season, from Jim O'Brien & Jon Landry. On a power play at the 3:19 mark, the Bears made it 2-0. Tomas Kundratek scored his 1st of the season, from Cameron Schilling & Casey Wellman (2nd point of the night). 2 minutes later, the 1st fight of the game occurred between Albany's Chris McKelvie and Hershey's Jim O'Brien.

A penalty against Hershey shortly after that fight would lead to a power play goal for Albany at the 8:04 mark. Stefan Matteau scored his 4th of the season, from Brandon Burlon & Ben Thomson. At the 12:22 mark of the period, the Devils would take advantage of a turnover in the Bears' zone to tie it at 2. Reece Scarlett scored his 1st of the season. At the 17:17 mark of the period, the Bears' would close out the scoresheet in the 1st with a goal to make it 3-2. Stanislav Galiev scored his 12th of the season, from Chris Conner. After the 1st, the Bears had the 12-11 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the penalties and goals would continue. At the 7:43 mark, the Devils would get their 2nd power play goal to tie the game at 3. Darcy Zajac scored his 4th of the season, from Reece Scarlett (2nd point of the night) & Stefan Matteau (2nd point of the night). However, just a little less than two minutes later, the Bears would get their 2nd power play goal of the night to take the 4-3 lead. Chris Conner scored his 7th of the season (2nd point of the night), from Stanislav Galiev (2nd point of the night) & Connor Carrick.

The Devils would not be outdone, as they got their 3rd power play goal at the 11:23 mark to tie the game at 4. Reid Boucher scored his 11th of the season, from Reid Scarlett (2nd assist/3rd point of the night) & Mike Sislo. The penalties would continue through the rest of the period, and those would conclude with a fight between Albany's Chris McKelvie & Hershey's Chris Brown. After the 2nd, the Bears had the 21-17 shot advantage.

In the 3rd, the penalties would continue to be given out. Albany's Dan Kelly would receive a major penalty along with a game misconduct for his dirty hit on Hershey's Garrett Mitchell. The Bears wouldn't be able to capitalize on the 5-minute power play, and the game would go to overtime. In the overtime, Albany's Rod Pelley would be charged with a costly penalty. 25 seconds into that power play, Hershey's power play master would celebrate his 23rd birthday in style with the game winning goal. Stanislav Galiev scored his 2nd of the night (13th of season), from Connor Carrick (2nd assist of the night) & Chris Conner (2nd assist/3rd point of night). The shots were tied at 29, and the final penalty minute count was 113.

Recap

One of the strangest games of the season by far. That 2nd was one of the weirdest periods of the season. The game started off great for the Bears, as they got the first goal. Casey Wellman scored his 11th of the season, from Stanislav Galiev & Jim O'Brien. However, Nathan Walker would be called with a double minor for high-sticking, and the Admirals didn't take long to take advantage of the 1st half of that penalty. Emerson Etem scored his 6th of the season, from William Karlsson & Max Friberg. After the 1st, the Admirals had the 9-6 shot advantage.

The 2nd completely changed the look of this game. The amount of penalties has happened before in a period of a Bears' home game, but these penalties made sure the momentum was on the Admirals' side. In the early parts of the period, Norfolk was getting penalties called on them. As the period went on, more and more penalties were being called on the Bears, one after another. All those penalties finally caught up with the Bears, as the Admirals scored on one at the 13:21 mark. Emerson Etem scored his 2nd of the game (7th of the season), from Dany Heatley & Kevin Gagne. After the 2nd, and with all their power plays, the Admirals had the 26-15 shot advantage.

28 seconds into the 3rd period, the Admirals got an insurance goal to keep the momentum. Chris Wagner scored his 10th of the season, from Emerson Etem (3rd point of the night) & Kevin Gagne (2nd assist of the night). The penalties disappeared for almost all of the period, so there weren't any huge advantages for each team. However, at the 12:41 mark, the Bears got it to 3-2. Kris Newbury scored his 12th of the season, from Stanislav Galiev & Steve Oleksy. The Bears would catch a break on the penalty side, as Norfolk would receive two penalties near the end of the game. However, the Bears couldn't take advantage, and the Admirals would get a shorthanded empty net goal to put it out of reach. Dave Steckel got his 3rd of the season, from Marc Cantin. The Admirals finished with the 35-24 shot advantage.

Recap

A couple great performances from two players playing their first games for the Bears this season lead them to another good win. Brandon Anderson, making his first career AHL start, continued where Justin Peters left off last night. Norfolk was able to get the first goal of the game at the 9:05 mark. Dave Steckel (a former Bear) scored his 2nd of the season, from Louis Leblanc & Nic Kerdiles. A little more than two minutes later, on the power play, the Bears tied it up. Nate Schmidt (in his first game for the Bears this season) scored his 1st of the season, from Tomas Kundratek & Casey Wellman. After the 1st, the Bears had the 10-9 shot advantage.

In the 2nd, the penalties picked up. Through most of the period, all of the penalties were being called on the Bears. However, at the 16:08 mark, Norfolk was called with one. 26 seconds later, the Bears took advantage of it. Nate Schmidt scored his 2nd of the night (and the season), from Tomas Kundratek & Casey Wellman (2nd assist of the night for both). With 25 seconds left in the period, the Bears increased the lead to 3-1. Casey Wellman scored his 10th of the season (3rd point of the night), from Nate Schmidt (3rd point of the night) & Jon Landry. The 3rd was filled with small chances, but none would go through in the period. The Admirals finished with the 31-30 shot advantage.

Recap

What a great performance by Justin Peters in his first game of his conditioning stint. The offense fed off the performance, and put forth one of their best games of the season as well. Hershey's top line was on fire in tonight's game, as they led to most of the goals for the Bears. At the 7:44 mark of the 1st, Hershey got their first goal. Chris Brown scored his 9th of the season, from Chris Conner & Steve Oleksy. Only 1:03 later, the Bears made it 2-0. Stanislav Galiev scored his 11th of the season, from Connor Carrick & Tomas Kundratek. After the 1st, the shots were tied at 8.

In the 2nd, each team would receive two penalties against them. The 2nd penalty against the Bears stopped a shorthanded goal that would have been for Chandler Stephenson. The Bears were able to overcome the 5-on-3, and they were able to cause Albany to be on the penalty kill going into the 3rd. After the 2nd, the Devils had the 17-13 shot advantage. Right in the beginning of the 3rd, on that power play, the Bears made it 3-0. Chris Brown scored his 2nd of the night (10th of the season), from Chris Conner (2nd assist of the night) & Tim Kennedy. At the 17:19 mark, the Bears put the nail in the coffin with their 4th goal. Philippe Cornet scored his 6th of the season, from Jim O'Brien (1st game with the Bears). The frustration of the Devils caused a few penalties to occur only 10 seconds after that goal. Justin Peters finished with the 24-save shutout (Hershey finished with 26 shots).

Next Game: Tomorrow vs. Norfolk, 7:00

Note: Tim Kennedy was named as the Bears' representative at the AHL All-Star Classic. Kennedy is currently tied for 2nd in the league in assists with 26.

Recap

An important victory for the Bears, as it helps them get within 5 points of the Penguins for 1st place in the division. It wasn't an easy victory, as once again, Jeff Zatkoff proved to be the Bears' nemesis. However, Pheonix Copley played just as well. In the 1st period, the big moment was the Bears' penalty kill and getting rid of a 5-on-3 power play against them. After that period, the Penguins had the 12-4 shot advantage. In the 2nd, the goals appeared. At the 5:10 mark, the Bears finally solved Zatkoff. Erik Burgdoerfer scored his 1st AHL goal, from Kris Newbury & Chris Brown.

About 4 minutes later, the Penguins were able to tie it up. Matia Marcantuoni scored his 2nd of the season, from Nick D'Agostino & Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond. After the 2nd, the Penguins had the 20-14 shot advantage. In the 3rd and in overtime, the Bears were able to control a good amount of the play. However, Zatkoff stopped all of the Bears' shots in those periods. Going into the shootout, the Bears finished with the 29-26 shot advantage. In the shootout, Zatkoff and Copley would go back and forth with stops. In the 5th round, Philippe Cornet was finally able to get one past Zatkoff, and Copley would stop Tom Kostopoulos to get the 25-save victory.

Next Game: Friday at Albany, 7:00

Side Note: Philipp Grubauer was injured during the 3rd period of Wednesday's game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. It's been said that he is week-to-week.
