I don't think I've seen a bigger statement win in a playoff series than this one. This was a huge statement to the rest of the league, and the Bears won their first playoff series since 2010! The Bears started off early, and never stopped from there. 24 seconds in, the Bears would get on the board. Chris Brown scored his 2nd of the playoffs, from Dustin Gazley & Kris Newbury. At the 3:44 mark, on the penalty kill, the Bears made it 2-0. Dustin Gazley scored his 1st of the playoffs. Later on in the period, at the 10:40 mark, the lead would stretch to 3. Jakub Vrana scored his 1st of the playoffs, from Casey Wellman & Cameron Schilling. The Sharks would try to start a comeback, getting a goal at the 12:17 mark. Dylan DeMelo scored his 1st of the playoffs, from Ryan Carpenter & Eriah Hayes. However, the Bears would get that 3-goal lead right back at the 16:10 mark (on the power play). Casey Wellman scored his 1st of the playoffs (2nd point of night), from Nate Schmidt & Jakub Vrana (2nd point of night). After the 1st, the shot advantage was tied at 11.
In the 2nd, the scoring would continue, and it would begin with the Sharks making it 4-2 on the power play. Karl Stollery scored his 1st of the playoffs, from Chris Tierney & Dylan DeMelo (2nd point of night). At the 8:09 mark of the period, the Sharks would switch from Troy Grosenick to Aaron Dell in goal. The switch would not work, as at the 9:05 mark, the Bears lead was back to 3. Cameron Schilling scored his 2nd of the playoffs (2nd point of night), from Chris Conner & Tim Kennedy. At the 17:55 mark, Worcester's Evan Trupp would receive a major penalty and a game misconduct for slashing. The Bears would take advantage of this, as they got a goal with 28 seconds left in the period. Tim Kennedy scored his 1st of the playoffs (2nd point of night), from Connor Carrick & Chris Conner (2nd point of night). After the 2nd, the Bears had the 31-21 shot advantage.
The Bears would switch from Philipp Grubauer to Pheonix Copley in the 3rd. In this period, the Bears would continue to take advantage of that major penalty with a couple more goals. The first would come 19 seconds into the period. Casey Wellman scored his 2nd of the night (2nd of playoffs, 3rd point of night), from Jim O'Brien & Nate Schmidt (2nd assist of night). 1:09 later, the Bears made it 8-2 on the same power play. Liam O'Brien scored his 2nd of the playoffs, from Nate Schmidt (3rd assist of night) & Tim Kennedy (2nd assist, 3rd point of night). 41 seconds later, after a penalty on the Bears cancelled out the rest of their power play, they got their 9th goal. Casey Wellman finished off his hat trick (3rd of playoffs, 4th point of night), from Jakub Vrana (2nd assist, 3rd point of night) & Cameron Schilling (2nd assist, 3rd point of night). At the 8:06 mark, the Bears reached double-digits! Chris Brown scored his 2nd of the night (3rd of playoffs), from Connor Carrick & Kris Newbury (both 2nd assists of night). The Sharks would score a couple goals late in the game for some pride. The first was Rylan Schwartz's 1st of the playoffs, from Bryan Lerg & Daniil Tarasov. The 2nd was Matt Taormina's 1st of the playoffs, from Travis Oleksuk & Jeremy Langlois. The Bears finished with the 48-34 shot advantage.
Note: The Bears will either play Hartford or Portland in the next round, depending on the outcome of the Manchester-Portland series. I will post the next round's schedule when it is released!
