Bears Player Retires
According to Mike Vogel (writer on the Capitals official website), Bears defenseman Patrick Wey, who was out for almost the entire season due to a concussion, has retired at the age of 24. Over the past couple seasons, Wey has had trouble coming back from multiple concussions. He was able to play 9 games with the Caps (2013-14 season), and had 3 assists in those games. He played in 31 games for the Bears over 2 seasons, and had 1 goal and 5 assists in those games.

Bears Coaches Resigned
It was announced by the Bears yesterday that head coach Troy Mann, along with assistant coaches Bryan Helmer & Ryan Murphy, have been signed to multi-year contracts. Capitals Resign Nate Schmidt
The Capitals have announced that they have resigned Nate Schmidt to a two-year, one-way contract. This past season, Schmidt split his time between Washington and Hershey. In 39 games with the Caps, Schmidt had 1 goal and 3 assists. In Hershey, he had 3 goals and 6 assists in 19 regular season games. In 8 playoff games for the Bears, he had 4 goals and 5 assists. Capitals Resign Philipp Grubauer
It was announced today that Philipp Grubauer was resigned by the Capitals to a two-year, one-way contract. He played in one regular season and one playoff game for the Caps this past season. For the Bears, he played in 49 games, and was 27-17-5 with a 2.30 goals against average. In the playoffs for the Bears, he went 2-4 with a 3.35 goals against average. It will be interesting to see how this plays out next season, as the Caps will have Justin Peters and probably Braden Holtby (who is a free agent) on their roster already. According to the Hershey Bears' website, the team has resigned forward Dustin Gazley and defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer to one-year AHL contracts. Gazley had his best season as a Bear, as he had 18 goals and 20 assists in 72 games. In his time with the Bears, he has had 26 goals and 27 assists in 114 games. For Burgdoerfer, this past season was the first that he spent almost all of the season with an AHL team. In 58 games, he had 1 goal and 6 assists. Before this season, he spent most of his time with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.
The Caps announced recently that they have resigned forward Garrett Mitchell to a two-year, two-way contract. Mitchell served as one of the Bears' alternate captains this season. He had 4 goals and 4 assists in 64 games. He is currently the longest-tenured player with the Bears, as he has been in Hershey fully since the 2011-12 season, although he played a couple games for them in the two seasons before that.
